Why support Living Root?
Living Root is a non-profit organization comprised of 50+ members who pay a small annual membership fee managed by an elected board of Rooters. We maintain three dragon boats as well as full sets of paddles and life jackets for all paddlers. We paddle year round and rent space at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School pool in Somerville, MA during January, February and March for winter training.
We need community support to help us run our team, provide for supplies such as paddles, PFDs and safety devices. Our organization is extremely proud of its Boston roots and heritage. We believe in building a platform to promote health, wellness, synergy and perseverance by involving the citizens of Boston from various age groups and ethnicities.
We love to race in Dragon Boat festivals throughout New England and across the country. Each race costs the team anywhere from $700-$1500 to enter. The team currently raises money by renting our boats and equipment to other local teams by hosting team building events for companies throughout the on the water season.
If we receive your support, we anticipate being able to take our top performing paddlers to some of the best and most competitive races across the country with a goal of winning race championships. We will also be able to minimize the cost for joining our team which will grow our member base and thereby grow the sport of Dragon Boat in Boston. We will also strive to use this funding to help other dragon boat teams in the community to provide them with safety training, coaches training and team building.
