Weekly Wed – 2/12/2014

Hello teammates!

It’s clear that I won’t be doing any alpine skiing in Russia anytime soon. Did you see that course? It’s terrifying. And cold. I get enough of that on my walk home from the T every night.

1. Practice Schedule: There is practice this Thursday, Feb. 13 but then not again until Thursday, Feb. 27. No practice on Saturday, the next Thursday or the next Saturday.

Since we’re supposed to get a mix of snow, rain, rabbits and snow again as well as my personal favorite New England weather event – the wintry mix – stay tuned about practice on Thursday. I hope they don’t cancel the evening activities but they might. If you’re in doubt about whether to show up, text me at 617-378-8355.

2. Sharing is Caring I’m feeling like sharing a lot these days, so here goes:

2014 Race Attendance Spreadsheet, with our first two events on there. Please tell me if you’ll need a hotel room in NY. Also, can someone help me find some hotel rooms in NY?

Potential Race Spreadsheet – Matt Scotti put together this incredibly helpful resource of many of the dragon boat races scheduled to happen in 2014, along with their websites and some estimated costs and dates. Check it out so that you can be super-informed about races that are going on and thinking about which ones you want our team to go to (yes, Sarah we all know you want to race at Flathead Lake). And then thank Matt Scotti for doing this, but leave his leg alone. It’s almost healed and the last thing we need is some overzealous fan to share too much love and re-injure him in some way. Shout your praise from across the room, please.

NY Indoor sign up sheet and waiver Each paddler should sign up for 2 of the 3 events – either the 1000m, 500m or 250m. We’ll collect the waivers and put you into teams for the team event. The 1000m race comes with a lot of pain, but also a lot of glory – just ask Bryan and Nitin.

Don’t forget about entering your time for the Winter Olympics! I continue to be impressed by all of you. Keep up the good work!

3. Team Meeting on Saturday! 4:15 at the Asgard. We will start the meeting right at 4:30pm, so please be on time. If you’re concerned about the reliability and speed of the Red Line or your parking situation, then plan to leave your house early. Oh noooooo! You’re at a bar… early! You know what to do. Grab a drink and congratulate yourself on being early for the meeting. The team will provide some light snacks for your snacking purposes. The drinks and anything else are on your own tab.

Here’s the meeting agenda:
1. Year in review and special thank yous
-Race results
-Financial information
2. Election of new board members
3. Potential race discussion
4. General feedback about anything
5. Eat / drink

4. Fun Run, fun running – Saturday, March 29 I see that a bunch of you have signed up for the April Fools’ 4-mile run. That’s great! I need volunteers to help organize rides and find somewhere fun for us to go, post-race. I ran 4.25 miles at the gym this morning, so I’m feeling pretty good about things.

See you at the pool (I hope)!
